Speedway Indoor Karting

A veteran of the Indy 500, Sarah Fisher, plans to use her knowledge of racing to open a professional-grade go-kart facility next door to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in April 2016. The 60,000-square-foot facility will feature a 14-turn course with multiple elevation changes for one wild ride.

“You could break the group into teams, so it can be kind of competitive,” said Wallace. “There is a viewing area, so groups can go in shifts watching and participating. Everyone can be engaged while the others are racing.”

The course will offer a banked oval track set low enough for viewing by spectators on both floors of the facility. Karts for all skill levels will be available.

Fisher chose the April opening to coincide with the 100th running of the Indy 500 in May.

Groups will be able to relax after speeding around the course at the on-site restaurant 1911 Grill, named after the first year of the Indianapolis 500.

Indianapolis Museum of Art

Inspired by the sad and sweet film “The Fault in Our Stars,” a resurgence of interest has been building around one of the film’s main settings: the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s nature park.

Groups’ interest in the museum and park has grown with the popularity of the film. To satisfy the demand, the museum offers group tours of the 100-acre Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park.

“On a park tour, you can see the bench that appears prominently in the movie,” said Wallace. “You can also learn about some of the gigantic interactive sculptures spread out around the park.”

Museum officials envisioned a park that stayed true to its natural elements, so a hike through the park’s trails passes through woodlands, wetlands and meadows and alongside a 35-acre lake. Built in the 1930s, the Lilly House and Gardens also lies within the park’s boundaries, and groups can tour its immaculate interior and beautiful gardens.

Groups taking these tours will also want to spend time inside one of America’s largest and oldest general art museums. Founded in 1883, the Indianapolis Museum of Art holds more than 54,000 works spanning 5,000 years and the cultures of Africa, America, Asia and Europe.

Groups can either explore the museum at their leisure or participate in docent-led tours. During the tours, docents seek participant engagement and discussion so that all group members can come to appreciate the museum’s masterpieces.
