Borough Bound in New York City

A Site To Remember

The 9/11 Memorial, now in its third year of operation at the World Trade Center site, recently opened the museum that completes the National September 11 Memorial and Museum.

“Over 110,000 square feet memorializes those who were lost,” said Peck. “There are recordings from the morning of the attack and much more.”

The museum includes the steel tridents that were part of the Twin Towers’ facade and a cross made from intersecting steel beams. Visitors also see the FDNY Engine Company 21 truck that was parked under a walkway. The front end of the truck was charred by the blast while the back end remained relatively unscathed.

Personal artifacts, including shoes, identification cards and a watch worn by a passenger aboard one of the hijacked planes, are just a sampling of the intimate objects on display.

“It is a very moving experience, and they have done a graceful job,” said Peck. “Each person who visits has their own experience.”

This spring, groups will be privy to experiencing the One World Observatory, destined to be a must-do on any NYC itinerary. From floors 100 to 102 in One World Trade Center, the tallest structure in the Western Hemisphere, the 360-degree views of the city and the surrounding region are described as “unparalleled” by those few who have been there.

“Interactive exhibits, a choice of restaurants and the fastest elevator in the world will be on hand,” said Peck.

Old Favorites, New Twists

Even repeat visitors will want to return to their Big Apple favorites. Enjoy a classic musical or a new production in one of the 40 theaters in the city’s Broadway district, where you just might find great deals.

“Get here during one of the two annual Broadway Weeks where nearly every show participates in the two-for-one ticket deals,” said Peck.

And no itinerary is complete without time at Macy’s Herald Square, Macy’s flagship store and home to the world’s largest shoe floor. After a $400 million makeover that will soon be completed, that shopping paradise will offer 1.2 million square feet of retail space.

Finally, no other destination delivers a wealth of sports experiences like you’ll find in New York. Visitors can enjoy a professional sporting event in every borough, but hockey and basketball fans will want to check out the newly renovated Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. Home to the Rangers and the Knicks, the Garden has recently undergone a $1 billion top-to-bottom renovation.
