Hendricks County, an area just west of Indianapolis, offer groups a variety of ways to have art experiences. Several take place on the historic town square in Danville.

“We have Gallery on the Square in downtown Danville,” said Josh Duke, communications manager for the Hendricks County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It’s a gallery where you can go and have some classes and workshops. They do felt card workshops in there for groups.

“Also on the square we have Confection Delights. The owner is a chocolate artist. It’s really neat to see her create works of art out of chocolate.”

The two businesses are part of the area’s Rural Routes to Main Street Cultural Trail. Other stops along the trail are Hot Blown Glass, where visitors can see how glass is blown and even try making a piece of glass art on their own, and Whispering Pines Designs, a rug-hooking studio where workers craft artistic rugs by hand.

The community has a number of art-themed events that are attractive to tour groups. In October, the one-day Hendricks County Artisan Marketplace gathers several of the artists from the cultural trail in one place for an interactive event. They’re joined by other local artists who display pottery, painting, jewelry, sculpture and more.

Another event, Gingerbread Christmas, takes place on the first Saturday in December.

“It’s a huge event with over 100 juried artists that have booths there,” Duke said. “Many artists and crafters from many states will be showcasing a wide variety of works of art.”
