BATON ROUGE, La. — One way or another, you’re sure to remember BankTravel 2011’s opening evening event.

It’s either going to be a Super Bowl party you’ll talk about for years or an unforgettable evening at one of America’s most beloved antebellum plantations. Or for many it may be both — it all depends on your point of view!

One thing is for sure, delegates to the 2011 BankTravel Conference in Baton Rouge will never forget where they were on Sunday, February 6, 2011. Visit Baton Rouge (the Baton Rouge Convention and Visitors Bureau) and their partners are making sure of that.

“We’re taking all delegates offsite for a one-of-a-kind event at Nottoway Plantation,” said Renee Areng, executive vice president for sales and marketing of the bureau. “If you’ve never been to Nottoway, you’re in for a treat. We’ll have four distinct experiences there for them — and yes, one will be a Super Bowl party they won’t ever forget!”

Nottoway Plantation is a 33,000-square-foot antebellum mansion just outside Baton Rouge. This magnificent home features 64 rooms, ceilings of up to 15 feet and is now available for overnight stays to individuals and groups. There are 18 sleeping rooms in the mansion and four two-bedroom cottages on the adjacent grounds.

“The name of the event is ‘A Taste of Louisiana’,” said Areng. “We’re creating four separate experiences for delegates to the conference, and they’ll want to enjoy them all. We’re starting with an open house at Nottoway Plantation. We’ll have guides onsite to show delegates this magnificent home and its overnight accommodations.

“Then we’re creating a Cajun-grilled seafood venue under the oaks on the lawn. We’ll offer lots of food stations with Cajun cuisine and a band, the Bayou Boys, will be on hand to play live music.

“A third area will be an upscale jazzy venue. The John Gray Trio will play there, and anyone who wants something a bit more jazz-oriented will love it.

“And, of course, we’ll have a large tent outside decorated for a tailgating party for the Super Bowl. And in Baton Rouge, we know how to tailgate! We’re asking all delegates to wear their favorite team’s colors to the event. Of course, we’re hoping the Saints will be back in the Super Bowl. We’ll see.”

The tent will include an eight-foot screen for viewing the game and plenty of beverages for thirsty fans.
