Web Exclusive! Texas’ Barking Rocks Winery

Although Granbury’s Barking Rocks Winery specializes in dry reds, it always carries whites, roses and dessert wines to round out its offering. Lenoire, a black Spanish grape, grows on-site, but wines also use cabernet and zinfandel, all Texas fruit.

Tours vary seasonally. Tastings take place in the production facility, a three-sided barn closed in with old wood to maintain the rustic ambiance. The winery offers about six labels and annually makes approximately 800 to 1,000 cases of small-batch wines.

“Every time a batch of grapes comes in, we take a journey to find out how those grapes will present themselves,” said Tiberia, co-owner and winemaker. “We are definitely a boutique winery and never make the same wine twice.”

Barking Rocks’ music series offers six to seven concerts throughout the season. Live music, from mariachi bands to bluegrass, is booked one year in advance.
