Upscale Resorts in the Midwest

Prairie Club

Valentine, Nebraska

Groups that want to get away from it all and indulge in unadulterated nature will find retreat at the Prairie Club, 2,500 acres of Nebraska terrain that alternates between rolling hills like you’d find in Scotland and pine forests reminiscent of Colorado.

“We’re in a geographic region called the sand hills, and in the settler days, this land wasn’t farmable, so it became used for cattle ranches. You’ve got 40,000-acre ranches, so you can drive for miles without seeing another building,” said Kyle Schock, the property’s marketing and communications director.

The Prairie Club has capitalized on its two diverse environments to create a pair of high-quality golf courses. On the championship dunes course, set on the undulating sand prairie, seven sets of tees await golfers. Stay-and-play packages entitle groups to unlimited access to the courses.

Off the courses, groups can set out on the prairie on horseback on guided birding tours. Schock recommends that adventure lovers plan a kayaking or canoeing visit to the Snake River, which was recently featured in the New York Times and has been consistently ranked as one of the most scenic rivers in the country, welcoming nearly 60,000 visitors for water sports each year.
