Inaugural ST Conference showcases U.S. Space and Rocket Center

Do you have what it takes to train like an astronaut? You may just find out in Huntsville, Alabama, at the upcoming Select Traveler Conference scheduled for March 30 to April 1, 2014.

One thing’s for sure, we’ll all find out a lot more about those highly specialized American heroes at Huntsville’s opening dinner and entertainment event at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center on Sunday, March 30.

“We’ll actually be dining directly beneath the Saturn V rocket, a National Historic Landmark that is on permanent display at the center,” said Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau president Judy Ryals. “Delegates will have access to all the displays in the hall, including capsules from historic lunar expedition flights like the Apollo 16 mission, and a Mercury capsule trainer. These are actual artifacts that are now used to illustrate America’s exploration of space.”

Select Traveler delegates will be seated beneath the massive rocket that was designed by Wernher von Braun and his team for use by NASA’s Apollo and Skylab programs during America’s exploration of the moon between 1967 and 1973. Von Braun personally chose Huntsville as the site for his work in leading America’s aerospace efforts during that historic era.

Conference attendees will enjoy distinctive fare from numerous dining stations offering foods from countries represented in the International Space Station. Local entertainment will be on hand to make the entire evening a memorable kickoff to the 2014 conference.

“Hosting these prestigious travel planners from America’s banks, universities and chambers of commerce will be a very special opportunity for Huntsville and one of Alabama’s top travel attractions, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center,” said Pam Williams, the bureau’s tourism sales manager.

“Huntsville has been the epicenter of America’s space exploration program for decades, and this event will kick the Select Traveler Conference off in a style befitting our city’s place in American history. It will also speak to the importance we place on hosting these prestigious planners for worldwide travel programs.”

Ryals and Williams promise a few rocket-size surprises for attendees of this opening event, so put the Select Traveler Conference on your schedule today.
