The Group Travel Leader Small Market Meetings Going on Faith

Trafalgar Launches “Hidden Journeys” for Upscale Groups

For groups wishing for more immersive experiences, Trafalgar has released Hidden Journeys itineraries for 2015. The new tour type offers smaller groups more rare experiential activities than the standard Trafalgar tour.

The 11 Hidden Journeys itineraries limit the number of travelers to 26 people. Destinations include countries the company already serves, including Italy, France, Ireland, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Newfoundland, Panama, Japan and China.

“As I speak to travelers, hearing what they wanted to do, I was finding myself responding that we can’t get to certain places because of the size of the roads, the size of the coach,” said Gavin Tollman, CEO of Trafalgar. “What you’ve got now is selected itineraries that take our guests into the hardest-to-reach destinations.”

Hidden Journeys extends the concepts developed with Trafalgar’s Insider Highlights program, which launched in 2011 and offers experiential experiences such as dining with a local host family, touring native industries and inside-access activities. Because Trafalgar’s Hidden Journeys limits the group size, the tours offer even more intimate experiences, such as boutique hotels that could not accommodate a larger group.

For example, the 47-room Albergo dell’Agenzia in Italy’s Piedmont region and a Gullet yacht cruise in Turkey would be too small for an average group size, but fits right in to these upscale tours. Smaller motorcoaches can also reach places that would be impossible for a larger group.
