The 14,000-square-foot facility will showcase 6,000 items in the former Minnesota Stoneware Company building and will include a research center, classroom, meeting space and a gift shop, which will sell collectible items that have been donated to the museum.
The free museum will contain a sample of nearly every item made by the Red Wing Pottery Company, including a one-of-a-kind 70-gallon crock which was displayed at the main entrance of the Minnesota State Fair in the 1920s.
The museum will anchor a newly rejuvenated Historic Pottery District that also includes the new Red Wing Brewery, Smokey Row Cafe, Kelly’s Bar and Larry’s Jugs antique shop, which features Red Wing Pottery and other collectible items.
