PORTLAND, Ore. – After five years lying dormant, the American Empress relaunches on the Columbia and Snake rivers in April 2014. The American Queen Steamboat Co., recently obtained the former Empress of the North river cruise ship, which previously sailed for Majestic America Line.

The 223-passenger American Empress will sail a nine-day route from Portland, Ore., to Clarkston, Wash. Built to replicate an 1800s-era paddlewheeler, the vessel will receive millions of dollars of improvements to its infrastructure and interiors.

The American Empress’ Caliope Bar will transform into an indoor/outdoor alternative dining venue. Menus will incorporate Pacific Northwest region cuisine.

The American Queen Steamboat Co., say they will use the knowledge they learned from their relaunch of the American Queen in 2011 for the reinvention of the American Empress.
