Worth Avenue is Palm Beach’s most recognized shopping area, but visitors will find plenty of shopping in the mainland city of West Palm Beach, including a hopping historic downtown, an up-and-coming neighborhood and a nationally renowned antique row.

“Each one has its own personality,” said Maria Hayworth, spokeswoman for Discover Palm Beach County.

Clematis Street is the city’s historic downtown, known as much for its after-hours nightlife as its business-hours shopping. The street is lined with a mix of national retailers such as Design Within Reach, as well as independent shops like the Clematis Street News Stand, Back on the Rack designer consignment shop and the Hookah Me Up hookah bar. Palm Beach Segway Tours is also based on Clematis Street.

South of Clematis Street, Antique Row is “very well known,” Hayworth said, with about 40 antique shops, vintage markets and home-design stores that feature items ranging from the 17th century to midcentury modern. North of downtown, Northwood Village is an emerging, funky neighborhood that is home to art galleries, home decor and antique stores, boutiques selling handmade goods, cafes, bistros and even a piano bar.

A free trolley runs from Clematis Street to CityPlace, an outdoor mall that opened in 2000. And the city’s shopping scene continues to grow. The Palm Beach Outlets opened in mid-February with more than 100 outlet stores, including Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and Calvin Klein. Groups of 15 or more can also register for tours and will receive free coupon books.
